Valentine’s Day was never something I use to bother with but last year I got truly pampered by my boyfriend and decided that actually, Valentine’s is pretty awesome when a spa and fancy restaurant is involved.
It also means that spring is on its way which means one step closer to summer!
Another reason I love Valentine’s? Chocolate. My favourite thing. Now that I’m all healthy and what not I thought I’d try my best to make healthy versions of some Valentine’s treats you might like to share with your loved one. Some of them are kinda healthy but I’d still recommend eating them only in moderation.
Obviously these recipes were sooo dull to create and I definitely didn’t lick the bowl at all. Not once. Girl guides honour. Ahem. Anyhoo lets get to it!
On Friday I got very excited because I decided to go and buy a food processor as an early Christmas pressie for my boyfriend and me. Whipped this baby up the other morning, isn’t she a beaut?
I have had a few people ask if it’s really necessary to faff about with all the beautify like me. Of course not. I do the beautifying mostly to make the pic look lovely for you guys, my readers, BUT that being said, I do believe we eat with our eyes so the prettier it is, the more likely we are to enjoy it.
Ok I’m pretty chuffed with this one- I mean come on, it’s pretty flipping beautiful right? Right.
I clearly have too much time on my hands if I’m making smoothies that look like this…anyway, I thought it would bring some colour into my readers day (which if you live in England are getting pretty grey and soggy at the mo).
Also, I’d just like to mention that I braved freezing temperatures to go outside and photograph this thing so I hope you appreciate it. Just kidding. No, but seriously, freezing temperatures.
Right, moving on. Not only is it a work of smoothie art (even if I do say so myself) it also tasted pretty nice too. Yay!
So here’s the recipe:
Handful of spinach
Handful of berries
4 tsp of oats
4 peach segments
Dash of lemon juice
400ml of water
For the topping:
Tbsp of chia seeds*
Tbsp of flax seeds*
Frozen berries (I used cranberries)
Ok whizz up all the smoothie ingredients in a blender. The thicker the smoothie the easier it will be for the toppings to ‘sit’ on top of it in the bowl.
Pour smoothie mix into bowl and top artistically with fruit and seeds.
Take fancy photo and show it off to anyone that will look at it.
Obviously, most of you actually have proper jobs and places to be so just stick the seeds in with the smoothie and you’re good to go.
